toot collects the minimum information required to offer proximity messaging features. The data we process depends on how you use the app and the permissions you grant.
- Account basics
- Display name, optional avatar, and the email address you provide for account recovery.
- Proximity signals
- Bluetooth and ultra-wideband identifiers that help us discover nearby toot users. Signals are randomized and rotated for privacy.
- Usage diagnostics
- High-level analytics about feature adoption, crash logs, and performance metrics. These are aggregated and never sold.

2. How we use information
We process your data to deliver proximity messaging, maintain app security, and improve the toot experience.
- Operate core features such as proximity discovery, channel messaging, and notifications.
- Sync preferences across devices when you sign in with iCloud.
- Measure anonymous usage trends to prioritize product improvements.
- Respond to support requests and troubleshoot issues you report.

3. Sharing and disclosure
We never sell your personal information. We only share data in the limited scenarios below:
- With your consent, when you invite contacts or share a channel.
- With service providers that help us operate toot (e.g., analytics, crash reporting). Providers are bound by confidentiality agreements.
- If required by law to comply with a valid legal process.

4. Data retention
We keep your data only as long as necessary to provide toot or as required by law. When you delete your account, we remove personal identifiers within 30 days unless retention is legally mandated.

- Manage sharing preferences in Settings > Privacy.
- Download a copy of your data via Settings > Account > Export.
- Request deletion by contacting privacy@toot.app.
- Adjust analytics participation from Settings > Privacy > Analytics.

6. International transfers
toot is hosted in the United States. If you access the app from another region, your data may be transferred to the US. We implement safeguards to protect your information consistent with applicable laws.

7. Children's privacy
toot is not directed to children under 13. If we discover we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it immediately. Parents who believe their child has provided data should contact us.

8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect app enhancements or legal requirements. We will notify you within the app and update the “Last updated” date below.
